4. What is Foundational Psychiatry?
Foundational Psychiatry is a comprehensive mental health assessment and integrative treatment plan. It considers your symptoms, history, lifestyle, habits, stressors, and goals to create a plan that fits your real life.
5. What happens during my first appointment?
Your first visit is a longer, in-depth appointment. You’ll discuss:
- current symptoms and concerns
- sleep, energy, focus, and daily habits
- health history and medications
- stressors, emotional patterns, and goals

6. Do you offer psychiatric care?
Yes. Praxis Mental Health provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management through a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP).
7. Can a psychiatric nurse practitioner prescribe medication, or do I need to see a psychiatrist?
Psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychiatrists are both licensed professionals who provide psychiatric care. Psychiatric nurse practitioners are licensed to prescribe psychiatric medications. The best choice depends on your needs, preferences, and care goals.
8. Do you prescribe medication?
Yes, when appropriate. Medication is one tool — never the only tool. We also focus on sleep, stress, routines, nervous-system regulation, therapy recommendations, and holistic strategies.
9. Can I receive psychiatric care without medication?
Absolutely. Many clients choose therapy, lifestyle strategies, and supportive care without medication. Medication is only considered when it fits your goals and needs.
10. How long does treatment usually last?
Treatment length varies. Some people seek short-term support for specific concerns, while others continue longer for deeper insight, stabilization, and sustained growth.
11. What ages do you work with?
Praxis Mental Health works with teens (13+), adults, and families seeking collaborative, integrated mental health care.
12. Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything shared is confidential unless there is a concern about safety or legal reporting requirements.
13. Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes. We offer telehealth psychiatric care, for both therapy and psychiatry, for clients located in California and Oregon.
14. Do you refer out for specialized therapies?
Yes. We coordinate referrals for EMDR, brainspotting, lactation consultants, doulas, parenting coaches, and other specialty providers as needed.

17. What is the role of Nurse Support at Praxis?
Our nurse offers relevant education, symptom monitoring, and guidance between visits. They connect you with community resources, groups, and programs for added support.
18. What is Praxis Coordinated Care?
Praxis collaborates with your outside providers — therapists, doctors, doulas, specialists — to make sure your care is cohesive, aligned, and seamless.
19. Can I combine psychiatry, therapy, and nursing support?
Yes. Praxis is built for integrative care — multiple services can work together to support your goals.
20. How soon can I start?
Scheduling varies, but Praxis offers flexible availability and telehealth options so you can begin care as soon as you’re ready.
21. When will the Praxis Planner be available?
Planned for mid-2026 (timing may change).
22. Do I need to be a patient to use it?
Not at all. While our patients receive a copy when they are seen in our practice, the planner is available for anyone to purchase and use independently or with their own healthcare provider.
23. How does the Solution Loop work?
You record insights and experiences in your planner, and your care team uses these reflections to adjust what isn’t working and amplify what is.
